Volcanoclastic rocks as a bedrock of beech forests

Beech forests in Serbia are developed on the soils formed on the rocks which differ by structural-textural charactersitics and mineral and chemical composition. As rock characteristics must be reflected both on the soil and on the quality of beech forests, this paper presents the contents of Fe, Cu, Zn, and Pb in hydrothermally altered volcanoclastic rocks of Crni Vrh near Bor and in beech foliage developed on them. The aim of the paper is to point to the significance of rocks in the identification of the optimal sites for beech forests.
