The above ground biomass accumulation and distribution, nutrient uptake and sequestion and the gross energy content of 34 year old Anogeissus leiocarpus, 16 year old Tectona grandis (teak) and 10 year old Azadirachta indica (neem), grown for fuelwood and poles in the Sudan savanna of Ghana were assessed. The assessment was done by using two temporary 20x20m or 0.04 ha plots in each stand. Four trees were selected from each plot in each stand as sample trees. The mean tree biomass was 29.1, 8.6 and 7.7kg, leaf component 1, 5 and 8 per cent and woody component 99, 95 and 92 per cent in A. leiocarpus teak and neem, respectively. The implications of these rates of biomass production and nutrient sequestion and subsequent harvest of the tree components on sustained productivity of the site are discussed.
