Application of biotechnology for waste water treatment of an oil field

英语. An applied biotechnology study has been conducted to treat the waste water from an oil and gas field units. The treatment was continuous process, conducted in 360 barrel/day capacity pond. The indigenous and exogenous bacteria were applied for enhanching the degradation of phenol and hydrocarbon. During the process, the waste water was enriched with 25 mg/l N and 5 mg/l P fertilizer. The result of aerobic process treatment during less than 24 hours incubation showed that original phenol content was 35 mg/l decreased to 2 mg/l, hydrocarbon content was 50 mg/l decreased to 10 mg/l, COD content was 1300 mg/l decreased to 200 mg/l, and dissolved oxygen was 1 mg/l increased to 5 mg/l. Beside content alteration of waste water, the water was clearer than that before treatment, and ready to be disposed to the water body

Kegiatan ini dilakukan secara kontinyu dalam suatu unit kolam dengan kapasitas tampung 360 barel per hari. Proses penjernihan dilakukan dengan bantuan aktivitas bakteri indigen dan eksogen yang mampu mendegradasi fenol dan hidrokarbon. Selama proses penjernihan berlangsung, air limbah diperkaya dengan pupuk N dan P masing-masing 25 dan 5 mg/l. Dari hasil proses penjernihan secara aerob selama kurang dari 24 jam menunjukkan bahwa perubahan kandungan yang semula untuk fenol di atas 35 mg/l turun menjadi di bawah 2 mg/l, hidrokarbon di atas 50 mg/l turun menjadi di bawah 10 mg/l, COD di atas 1300 mg/l turun menjadi di bawah 200 mg/l, dan DO di bawah l mg/l naik menjadi di atas 5 mg/l. Disamping perubahan di atas air yang semula berwarna hitam menjadi relatif jernih dan siap dibuang ke badan air
