Sporulation of Colletotrichum capsici on red chilli pods as affected by humidity, light, lesion status and application of fungicide

The capacity of anthracnose lesions on pods of red chilli plants in the field to produce conidia has been investigated in relation to light, humidity, lesion status conditions and fungicide application. Five light conditions (darkness, blue, green, red and violet light), five combinations of two humidity levels (high and low) and three lesion statuses (red and large size, red and small size, green and large size), and four combinations of two fungicides (mancozeb and propineb) and two concentrations (0.1 and 0.2 percent formulation) plus untreated (control) were tested. It was obtained that lesions produced much lower number of conidia per square cm lesion when exposed to red light than when exposed to blue, green or violet light or darkness; the latter each gave similar numbers of conidia. Experiment with lesion status obtained more conidia per square cm lesion on red pods than on green pods which suggested the promoting effect of older host tissue while larger size of lesion did not seem to associate with the conidial number produced on the lesion. Smaller lesions tended to have higher conidial density than larger ones. Application of fungicide mancozeb and propineb reduced the number of conidia per square cm lesion as compared to that of control (water treatment). Propineb provided lower conidial number than mancozeb and the higher fungicide concentration the greater the reduction of conidial number. Conidial number given by 0.2 percent propineb was 6.4 x 10 at the power of 4 per square cm lesion, which is about 1/19 of that given by control (127.5 x 10 at the power of 4 per square cm lesion)

Lima kondisi cahaya (biru, hijau, violet, merah dan gelap), lima kombinasi dari kondisi kelembaban (tinggi dan rendah) dan status lesi (ukuran besar dan pada buah merah, ukuran kecil dan pada buah merah, ukuran besar dan pada buah hijau), 5 kombinasi dari 2 fungisida (mancozeb dan propineb) dan 2 konsentrasi (0,1 dan 0,2 persen formulasi) dan 1 kontrol (air) diuji pengaruhnya. Ternyata lesi yang dikenai cahaya merah memproduksi jumlah konidia yang terendah dibanding dengan lesi yang dikenai kondisi cahaya lain. Jumlah konidia yang masing-masing dibentuk di bawah sinar biru; hijau dan violet serta kondisi gelap tampak hampir sama banyaknya. Lesi pada buah yang merah membentuk konidia yang lebih banyak daripada lesi pada buah hijau tetapi jumlah konidia tidak mempunyai hubungan yang jelas dengan besarnya ukuran lesi. Lesi yang kecil cenderung memberikan kepadatan konidia yang lebih tinggi daripada lesi yang lebih besar. Lesi yang diperlakukan dengan propineb memberikan jumlah konidia lebih sedikit daripada lesi yang diperlakukan dengan mancozeb; makin tinggi konsentrasi fungisida makin kecil pula jumlah konidia.
