Remote sensing method with a handheld radiometry was applied to estimation of moisture content of unhulled rice in rice canopies of rice cultivar "HANA-ECHIZEN" and "KOSHIHIKARI". The most effective indexes of spectral reflectance for estimating the moisture content of unhulled rice(MC) of "HANA-ECHIZEN" and "KOSHIHIKARI" were R750/R500 (the ration of the spectral reflectivity at 750nm and 500nm) and R750/R675 (the ration of the spectral reflectivity at 750nm and 675nm), respectively. The regression equations were "MC = 3.177(R750/R500) + 5.178" for "HANA-ECHIZEN", and "MC = 4.245(R750/R675) + 12.034" for "KOSHIHIKARI". The correlation coefficient were 0.895 and 0.915, respectively. The observed and estimated values of MC were distributed on the ratio line of one to one. The correlation coefficients were 0.92 and over in both rice canopies for "HANA-ECHIZEN" and "KOSHIHIKARI". The standard error of prediction were 1.81 and 2.41, respectively.
