The characteristic investigation on the different transplanting dates of low amylose content paddy rice [Oryza sativa] variety Sawapikari

SAWAPIKARI is a variety of paddy rice with a low amylose content. The rice that was transplanted later had shorter column height, decreased yield, and higher amylose content than the rice that was transplanted earlier. The change in amylose content has a great influence on the dullness of the brown rice and the stickiness of cooked rice. The endosperm of brown rice become clearer the later the rice was transplanted. When cooked, the later rice was of better quality than the early rice. In other words, the later transplanted, the longer it stayed soft. We found that there is a high correlation between the amylose content of the rice and the cumulative value of each days average temperature, which was calculated 30 days after heading. When the cumulative temperature 30 days after heading was 700 deg C , the amylose content was 10% and the endosperm became clear. By changing the transplanting date, we were able to control the amylose content and cooked rice quality of SAWAPIKARI.
