Effects of a fertilizer 'Joraku' comprised of rare earth elements on the cool season grasses and the relation to its ingredient

Summary The effects of a specific Chinese fertilizer 'Joraku' which comprised of rare earth elements were examined with three cool season grass species (Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass and tall fescue). Grasses species were grown on 'Decor pot' (12.5 cm diameter and 0.8 L in volume) containing 300 g of a growth medium (Napura medium, Yanmar). Treatments were l) 0.1% 'Joraku' solution, 2) nitric acid solution incorporating the same nitrate-nitrogen with 0.1% 'Joraku', and 3) tap water as the control. Each of them were applied 250 mL per pot through the bottom of pot once at 25 days (Expt. l) or 5 days (Expt. 2) after germination. From the results of the present experiments it was iuferred that part of the effects of 'Joraku' on plant length and fresh weight accumulation was ascribed to the nitrate-nitrogen. The time required to express the growth promotion was 2 weeks both in 'Joraku' and nitric acid treatments but the longevity of effectiveness to plant length and fresh weight was 4-5 and 6 weeks in 'Joraku' treatment and 4 weeks in nitric acid treatment, respectively.
