SUMMARY Shochu dregs were blended with total mixed ration (TMR) materials and a feeding test was carried out by the dross-over method as referring 4 weeks as a single term with the use of 6 milk cows. 1) Using a constant crude protein (CP) concentration in the TMR of 16% (on the dry matter (DM) basis) , soybean meal was used as a material and also Shochu dregs were employed as a substitute therefor, 2) Next, TMR samples having CP concentrations (on the DM basis) of three levels (13%, 16% and 18%) were prepared using Shochu dregs. Compared with soybean meal. Shochu dregs resulted in a milk protein content higher by 2% on average. However, no significance difference was observed in statistical analysis. Increase in the Shochu dregs content brought about no change in milk quantities and qualities. Although the results of a blood examination suggested that blood urea nitrogen (BUN) increased proportionally to the Shochu dregs content, the data fell within the normal numerical range. The results of this study indicate that Shochu dregs are comparable to soybean meal from the viewpoints of milking properties and milk qualities.
