This is a report submitted to the Canadian International Development Agency Government of Canada, gives a review of the project which was conducted during the period 6-25 November 1995 to assess overall project effectiveness, constrains which had an adverse effect on project delivery and the need for a second phase. The objectives of this project were; 1. The permanent biological control of three species of confer aphids ; the cypress aphids initially believed to be Cinara cupressi, the pine woodly aphid, pineus sp. and pine needle aphid, Eucalchnus rileyi. This project was undertaken by the national forest research institutes in Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zaire, Zambia and Zimbabwe. 2.The strenthening of capacity within the national forest research departments for the development of biological control and intergrated pest management (IPM) for forest pests through a programme of training, cooperative research and esteblishment of local biological control facilities and forest insect and disease management in Africa.
