Development of shoots from in vitro cultured shoot primordia obtained from shoot apices of Narcissus tazetta L. var. chinensis Roem

Summary Shoot primordial from shoot apices is useful for micropropagation and mutagenesis in Narcissus tazetta L. var. chinensis Roem. I investigated the effect of NAA, BAP and sucrose concentrations in the culture media on regeneration of shoot from shoot primordia. 1. The optimum hormonal concentration for development of shoots was NAA 0.02mg/l and BAP 2mg/l. The condition was also suitable for maintenance and proliferation of shoot primordia. 2. The ratio of primordia that developed shoots on 1quot;sucrose medium was almost identical with that on 2quot;sucrose, However, number of developed shoots was superior on the medium with 2quot;sucrose. 3. It took 3 to 5 months for development of shoots from shoot primordium. There was difference m ratio and number of developed shoots among lines of shoot primordia.
