Research of the catchment forests of Morogoro Region in Tanzania revealed a lot of new records on the gene pool values of this area, which lies in the floristically richest belt of tropical Africa. Records on 16 endemic and subendemic species, including trees and shrubs and new occurrence of 12 coastal or Madagascar linked species are enumerated from the different mountains of the cystalline arc of Eastern Tanzania. Distribution maps of the species are also provided. The phytogeographic subdivision of the Eastern Arc is established and gene conservation reserves with high-level protection are proposed.
