Grass seed production is a very important factor for farmer's income in Latvia. The aim of present research was to study winter hardiness, productivity and forage quality of six Festulolium and Lolium x boucheanum (Kunth) foreign varieties under agro-ecological conditions of Latvia. Latvian hybrid ryegrass variety 'Ape' was used as control. Field trials were established on the sod - podzolic soil and fertilized with N 90, N 120 and P - 104, K - 150 kg haE-1. The productivity of biomass and seeds were dependent on the variety, mineral fertilizer rates. Some parameters were influenced by genetic traits of particular cultivars.
