Comparative study of different flue-cured virginia (FCV) tobaccovarieties in NWFP, Pakistan

Nine flue-cured Virginia tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) varieties wereevaluated for growth, yield and morphological characteristics at TobaccoResearch Station Mardan during the year 1997-98. The experiment waslaid out according to Randomized Complete Block Design replicated thrice.The results revealed that varieties were significantly different from eachother for all five characters studied. Maximum plant height was observedin variety RG-13 followed by variety Speight G-111. Maximum leaf size,higher number of leaves/plant, green leaf and cured leaf yield wereproduced by variety Speight G-111 closely followed by variety RG-13. Onthe basis of better performance varieties Speight G-111 and RG-13 arerecommended for Mardan (NWFP) area.
