Positive aspects of the occurrence of Avena strigosa Schreb. in oat crops

The aim of the present investigations was to determine the effects of Avena strigosa occurrence in oat fields under various soil conditions and density. The field trials were carried out by the method of randomized blocks in 1994-97. A. strigosa and A. sativa were grown on two soil complexes: poor rye soil and good wheat soils in three propartions. Both oat species were also sown separately, for comparison. An analysis of the results obtained shown that A. strigosa occurrence at a level of 12.5 percent on the poorest soils with low plant density may have a positive influence on the grain and straw yield
