The influence of intensive tillage in reclamation of multi-year fallow on the yield of crops and some properties of soil

The influence of different tillage techniques applied on multi-year fallow on the yielding of crops and changes in soil compaction and moisture content has been determined. Tilth with a plough and skim coulter, melioration terracing and direct sowing were compared with traditional ploughing. The melioration terracing was found to have brought about decreased yields as compared to traditional ploughing while those obtained with direct sowing were rather similar. Direct sowing introduced in the second year after reversible ploughings did not reduced yields and was found to be favourable to increase in soil moisture content
