Szostak, B.(Akademia Rolnicza, Lublin (Poland). Inst. Nauk Rolniczych w Zamosciu)
The analysis embraced pigs of all breeds raised in pedigree livestock and reproductive farms in the area of the Regional Station of Animal Breeding in Lublin (Poland) in 1995-98. The number of sows and their percentage in the whole stock were viewed. Average results of reproductive utilization of sows were compared based on the following features: number of piglets born in one litter, number of piglets on 21st day of life, age of first farrowing and length (in days) of the period between 2 successive litters. The results were collected according to years of utilization, breeds and property sectors. The highest fertility and fecundity was found for wbp sows, although throughout the tested period no improvement of those features was observed. A remarkable improvement of reproductive features was observed in sows of the following breeds: pbz, Pulawska, Hampshire and Duroc. Higher indicators of reproductive utilization were found in privately owned sows
