The content of macroelements in the undergrowth of alternate and permanent pastures in individual farms specializing in breeding dairy cattle

In 2000, nine individual farms specializing in breeding dairy cattle in the Lublin area (Poland) were visited. Using a method of interviews, a general characterization of the farms was prepared. Representative samples of pasture undergrowth were taken and the dominating plant species were marked in the undergrowth. The content of N, P, K, Ca, Na and Mg was also determined. The analysis showed a general shortage of sodium and magnesium in the undergrowth. The studies found out a more positive chemical composition of the undergrowth from alternate pastures as compared to permanent ones with worse species composition of undergrowth and poorer fertilization
