In the years 1996-98 at the Experimental Station at Felin near Lublin (Poland), field experiments were conducted on Persian clover (Trifolium resupinatum). The yielding and quality of two cultivars (Portugalska, Ira) (in 4-cuttings utilization) were compared. Results showed smaller plant density in II, III and IV cuttings, and smaller density of shoots in III and IV cuttings in the case of Portugalska cv. as compared to Ira cv. Both cultivars gave yields at similar levels, but they differed with the percentage yield of cuttings in the annual yield of dry weight. A more advantageous distribution was found with Ira cv. The compared cultivars were characterized by similar content of dry weight, total and true protein and fibre, as well as by small changeability of these elements in the cuttings
