In 1999-01 two field experiments were carried out to estimate the yield and nutritive value of the following Chinese cabbage cultivars planted on 17-23 of April and in the middle of August: Optiko, Manoko, Nekita, Nerva, Elliot, Asten, Spectrum, and Sapporo. On average the highest marketable yield in spring was produced by Elliot (66.17 t/ha) followed by Sapporo and Optiko and in the autumn season Nerva (72.46 t/ha) and Elliot. Plants harvested in spring showed a tendency to bolt, especially Nerva and Spectrum. The most resistant to bolting appeared to be Asten and Optiko. Content of total sugar and vitamin C in Chinese cabbage heads was greater in the spring term cultivation, while during autumn there was a higher accumulation of nitrates
