Monitoring and control of the rose tortrix moth - Archips rosanus L. on black currant with new generation insecticides

The experiments were carried out at Skierniewice (Poland) in 1997-00 on 5-10 year-old black currant plantations. A single treatment was applied just after blossoming, when young caterpillars of the rose tortrix moth were feeding on the leaves. Insecticides of a new generation showed a high and satisfactory control of Archips rosanus L. Acetamiprid as Mospilan 20 SP showed an efficacy of about 90 percent, indoxacarb as Steward 30 WG - 93 percent, methoxyfenozide as Runner 240 SC - 75-96.6 percent, and thiacloprid as Calypso 480 SC - 70-89.7 percent, depending on the year. Also bensultap as Bancol 50 WP showed a good control (about 90 percent) of the above-mentioned pest. The results obtained with new insecticides were similar to those obtained with standard chemicals: etofenprox as Trebon 10 SC (90-93 percent), fenitrothion as Sumithion Super 1000 EC (67-93.8 percent), and chloropyrifos + cypermethrin as Nurelle D 550 EC (90-96.6 percent)
