Fodder and seed production of amaranth (Amaranthus viridis) and corn (Zea mays)

Comparison between five varieties of amaranth (Amaranthus viridis) and corn (Zea mays cv. Suwan 1) was studied at the University Farm Research Station, Pakchong Nakhon Ratchasima. The varieties of the amaranth were K 01, R 1010, R 104, R 112 and native variety. The results showed that growth and dry matter yield of tops and seed yield of maize were higher than amaranth. Among the variety of amaranth, R 104 and R 112 grow better than the rests. The native variety gave higher seed yield than the others for every sowing dates. The most appropriate sowing time for seed production of the amaranth was in the early rainy season.
