Anthocyanin - derived plant natural products have long been known to function as floral pigment, which is important for pollination and also human and animal nutritions. During the past decade, several strategies including mutant analyses have given insight into the various parameters that contribute to flower color. This article present an overview of the main pigment anthocyanin effect on the plant colors. The knowledge of these biosynthesis and accumulation should provide trends for metabolic engineering in the commercial uses.
