Flavonoids and other metabolites from Buddleja parviflora

Genus Buddleja consists of around 100 species from tropical lands of Africa, America and Asia. Buddleja species are shrubs or small trees, cultivated as ornamental plants and for their medicinal properties. The species studied to date contain iridoids, phenylpropanoids, terpenoids and flavones. Buddleja parviflora which has not previous chemical studies, showed to contain iridoids and phenylpropanoids. In addition it contains flavanones not previously found in any species of Buddleja. Extraction of dried leaves with methanol afforded after chromatography over Kieselgel G a mixture of beta-sitosterol and stigmasterol, vanilloyl ajugol (1), verbascoside (2a), leucoceptoside (2b), O-methyl catalpol (3) an aucubin (4). The flavonoids eriodictyol (5a), glucohesperetin (5b), pyracanthoside (5c), linarine (5d) and pinocembrin (5e) were also obtained.
