Comparative study on growth, root system and yield of difference ecotypes of vetiver grass

Comparative study on growth, root systems and yield of difference ecotypes of vetiver groups was conducted at the Khao Hin Sorn Royal Development Study Centre on Mabbon soil series. Ten ecotypes of vetiver were selected for study, 6 ecotypes from Vetiveria nemoralis; Loei, Nakornsawan, Kamphaeng phet 1, Roi Et, Ratchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and 4 ecotypes from Vetiveria zizanioides Nash; Srilanka, Kamphaeng phet 2, Surat Thani, Song Khla 3. The result showed that the growth and plant yield of Vetiveria nemoralis: Loei was better than the others at 6 months after planting but Roi Et gave the highest tillering of 49 shoots per plant with 36.7 cm in diameter at 18 months. The growth and plant yield of Vetiveria zizanioides: Kamphaeng phet 2 was better than the other at 6 months after planting but at 12 to 18 months Song Khla 3 showed the best tillering of 48 shoots per plants with 36 cm in diameter at 18 months. The study showed that the growth and yield of Vetiveria nimoralis was better than Vetiveria zizanioides but the rooting system and biomass of Vetiveria zizanioides such as Song Khla 3 was higher than Vetiveria nimoralis.
