Trial plantation of some indigenous tree species in sulphate soil at Binhchanh, Hochiminh city

Saoxanh (Hopea dealbata) and Cana (Elaeocarpus hygrophilus Kur.) are two forest tree species giving timber with high economic high value. This is for the first time they were chosen for planting in sulphate soil within Hochiminh city area. Under intensive management the two species have been successfully grown. After 3 years of trial the following data were recored: survival rate: 78.6 percent for Saoxanh and 83.8 percent for Cana; the average height of tree population is of 1.5 metre.
