Relationships between productivity and sustainability of the farming systems in the long-term field experiments in Prague
Kubat, Ja. | Mikanova, O.(Research Inst. of Crop Rotation, Prague (Czech Republic))
The experiments were founded on six independent fields, five of which exist till the present time. The goals and conditions of these experiments are described. Crop yields (main and the second product), its dry matter and nutruient contents have been determined over the whole time of the experiments. The tillage, fertilization and pest control measures have been registered. Soil samples were taken from the arable layer of all the plots in the autumn each year and analysed for its organic C, total N, available P and K contents and ph. The investigations have shown a positive effect of both organic and mineral fertilization on the selected soil characteristics. Total organic C content, total nitrogen content, hot water soluble C content and also C content in microbial biomass were stimulated by both the organic and mineral fertilization in a comparable way as the yields of the main products. Similar results were found in both fields differing in the crop rotation. Respiration, ammonification and nitrification activity was stimulated by the organic manuring. Mineral fertilization stimulated the potential respiration and nitrification activities. Alternative sugar beet growing was more external nutrient input dependent than the nine years crop rotation
