[Influence of potassium nutrition and acidity of the sod-podzolic loam sand soil on yielding capacity and 137Cs and 90Sr accumulation by spring rape and potato]

Close negative correlation dependences between 137Cs and 90Sr accumulation by potato tubers and spring rape and the content of mobile potassium in the sod-podzolic sandy loam soil were revealed in the result of field experiments. Results of the laboratory experiments with spring rape germs showed that increasing of the potassium content in the culture medium in 34 times caused the decrease of 137Cs accumulation in the roots in 87 times, in the aerial plant part - in 38 times that made it possible to specify the potential ability of “potassium therapy” to reduce the radionuclide accumulation in plants. The minimal amount of biologically available radionuclides in spring rape was stated under the field conditions when the rate of mobile potassium in soil was 450 mg/kg. The minimal amount of biologically available 90Sr in potato was marked when the tested soil contained 493 mg/kg of mobile potassium, the minimal amount of biologically available 137Cs – when the tested soil contained 465 mg/kg. That was up to 240 mg/kg higher than the average agrochemical optimum. The radionuclide accumulation and crops yielding capacity essentially varied depending on the dose of potassium fertilizers
