Grapevines take a very important place in the agriculture of South Serbia. Growing of grapevines and the wine production, became a tradition there (wine cellars capacities in Vranje, Vlasotince, Grdelica, Prokuplje, Sicevo), because of the very good agro-ecological conditions. Common grapevine diseases in this area are: downy mildew, powder mildew and gray mould. Up till these days, there is another disease - Phomopsis cane blight and Leaf Spot or Excoriose (Phomopsis viticola). Symptoms of this disease spread very fast, expecially in the rainy conditions (like it was in the years 1999 and 2004.
