The objective of this work was to investigate the different types of SPE columns for the clean up of tobacco leaves and onion extracts in analytical procedure of the imidacloprid residues determination. The best recovery factor (98.29%) for imidacloprid in tobacco leaves samples (fortified with 0.05 mg imidacloprid/kg) was obtained after the extraction with ethyl acetate and clean up on LC-CN columns. The best recovery factor (99.6%) for imidacloprid in onion samples (fortified with 0.05 mg imidacloprid/kg) was obtained after the extraction with dichloromethane and clean up on LC-Florisil columns. Determination of imidacloprid in onion and tobacco leaves extracts were done by HPLC, DAD at 270/4 nm. Obtained limit of quantitation (LOQ) for the imidacloprid in tobacco and onion samples were 0.025 and 0.012 mg/kg.
