This paper deals basically with estimating total costs for machines, operations and systems. Accurate records are the best source of material for estimating costs, but cost tables are provided in the Appendix for estimating machine costs. The costs included in these tables cover: depreciation, taxes, shelter, interest, insuarce and repairs. When estimating total costs for machines, fuel and lubricant costs must also be included. Another cost that should be included is labour. Estimating total cost for a system is a basic skill for machinery management.
