Strategy of development of water resources in Serbia

This paper points out numerous problems that have hampered the water sector in Serbia. However, it is obvious that water management, based on a comprehensive and systematic restructuring, can give good results in satisfying the basic needs of the society. In order to set a course of the future actions, this paper briefly discusses basic conditions, which are of the greatest relevance for good water management. In view of the assessed situation, the paper states that the water management in Serbia needs structural reforms. For an accomplishment of the proposed objectives, the paper recommends harmonization of the legilative related to water resources management with the European practice. The future development of water resources requires rather large investments. The authors propose three models for investments.
