Haematological analysis was performed on 27 adult specimens of Carassius auratus irrespective of sex in 2003 and on 32 juveniles with respect to sex in 2004. The ploidy level significantly affected the number of erythrocytes, mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular haemoglobin. Although the effect of sex was not significant, the values of erythrocyte profile, erythrocyte count, haematocrit and haemoglobin content were higher in males than in females. The values of erythrocyte count and haemoglobin content decreased with increasing ploidy level, whereas mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular haemoglobin increased significantly with the increasing ploidy level. The values of haematocrit and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration were not significantly influenced by the ploidy level.
