The certification of environmental management systems under ISO 14001 or Emas regulations applied to large-scale areas (industrial districts, local authorities with responsibilities in land planning, etc.) is becoming more and more important as a marketing tool in qualifying a region, thus improving its product and service competitiveness. The Emas certification at regional level can be usefully integrated by several other voluntary instruments (organic agriculture certifications, forest certifications, etc.), with their trademarks and logos, in order to improve the value of the whole area. Challenges and opportunities of the application of these tools are described

La certificazione Emas a livello regionale può essere integrata utilmente da numerosi altri strumenti volontari (certificazioni di agricoltura biologica, certificazioni forestali, ecc.), con i loro marchi e loghi, allo scopo di rafforzare il valore dell´intera area.
