This paper discusses contract-based agricultural corporations in Hokkaido's rice-growing areas. Regional agriculture in these areas has recently been undergoing reorganization, in which the establishment of a contract-based corporation by two or more farms has attracted attention. This move is of significant importance in that it encourages medium and small-scale farmers, who have been under pressure to give up their businesses, to continue in farming in these areas, maintaining local agriculture.
