The plant height of purple asparagus 'Purple Passion' was higher than that of control green cultivar 'Welcome (UC 157)'. The sprouting time of 'Purple Passion' in spring was later than 'Welcome'. The yield was about 500 kg/10a and number of spears per plant was 13. The spear weight is 30g and the rate of marketable spears was more than 75%. The eating quality of raw and boiled spears of 'Purple Passion' was good especially in sweetness and total score, but the appearance of purple color was not preferred. Polyphenol content and DPPH radical-scavenging activity of 'Purple Passion' were higher than 'Welcome'.
