To develop the usage of Juncus effuses var. decipiens (Igusa), a novel gypsum board with an antimicrobial function was manufactured. Flexural strength and Young's modulus decreased by increasing the content of the Igusa in the board. The strength of the 10 wt96 Igusa board decreased remarkably. Antimicrobial effects against Salmonella typhimurium IFO 13245, EHEC O157:H7 (Vero Toxin type 1), and Staphylococcus aureus egharak appeared in after adding the Igusa to the board. The higher the Igusa content was, the greater the antimicrobial effect. In the culture of 96h, neither Salmonella, EHEC O157 or Staphylococcus were detected from the 3.0 wt% Igusa gypsum board of 10g.
