Since water-holding capacity of the perlite substrate is relatively low, the efficient moisture control in the substrate is required. In terms of the plant growth and irrigation efficiency, an adequate moisture content (MC) of the perlite substrate for hydroponically-grown tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum cv. Seokwang) was determined. Three MC levels of the substrate (12, 14, and 16%) were treated. As results, growth factors such as plant height, maximum leaf length and width, and shoot fresh and dry weights showed no significant differences.
