Correlation of seed unsaturated fatty acids with seed persistence in the soil

The analyses described here were done to determine chemical composition ofseed unsaturated fatty acids in a wide range of species and persistence in thesoil. Results showed no relationship between seed lipids and persistence in thesoil. Therefore, there was no evidence to support the hypothesis that the oilyseeds may be short lived and the relationship between oil content and seedlongevity hypothesis is complex.
