The content of soluble reserve saccharides in internode under peduncle of winter wheat and its connection with yield in drought conditions

Twelve winter wheat varieties were grown in pot experiments for two years under non water deficit conditions up to 10 days after anthesis. At this stage internodes under peduncle were sampled and sum of water soluble reserve saccharides and fructose, glucose, sucrose and fructan were determined. The varieties produced significantly less grain under water deficit conditions than in the control. The yield and its lower loss under drought conditions for all varieties analysed together were positively correlated only sucrose reserve in the internode under peduncle
