The present study was carried out on the peat-bogs of the Polesie National Park (Poland). Samples of soils and hay were collected from each of the objects chosen - Lejno Meadows and Lomnica Meadows. The pH level and content of organic matter in the soils was determined, as was the content of P, Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe. On the basis of chemical analysis it was found that the content of P, Ca, Mg and K in meadow sward was rather low, the content of P, Mg, Na and K in soils was rather low. It was observed that in the peat-bog objects described, there existed post-bog muck-peat soils characterized by acidic pH and slightly acidic pH. The soils examined were characterized by a low content of P, Mg and K. Only the Ca content proved to be sufficient. The analysed hay samples demonstrated a shortage of such elements as: P, Ca, Mg, K, and a relatively high content of Na and Fe. The examined hay samples were not only characterized by varied quantities of elements but also differences in their ratios. This concerned both weight ratios, e.g. Ca/P, K/Na and equivalence ratios K/(Ca+Mg). Chemical degradation of the soils in the objects described mainly concerned the loss of elements needed by plants, a considerable shortage of P, K and Mg was found. Mg proved to be a scarce element
