Influence of Cultural Practices on the Development of Root Rot Disease and Yield of Faba Bean in the River Nile State (Sudan)

The results on the effect of variety, irrigation interval and sowing date on the development of root rot iln faba bean (Vicia faba L.) showed that the incidence of the disease was affected by sowing date and irrigation interval. The difference in incidence between the short (12-day) and the long (24-day) irrigation intervals was generally greater in the early sowing (first of November) than in the late sowing (first of December). The variety D.E.2 proved to be resistant to the disease as it scored less than 20% incidence in the two seasons (1999/2000 and 2000/01). The yield and yield components of the two varieties, D.E.2 and F402/7, were reduced by late sowing and/or longer irrigation interval, but the yield of the former variety was more reduced by the longer irrigation interval, compared with the latter
