Protein structure of delta 9 stearoyl-ACP desaturase and delta 12 oleate desaturase genes of sunflower

Research was conducted to predict the structures of SAD and OLD proteins of sunflower as well as the relationship of amino acid sequences of these to proteins among different plants. SAD and OLD proteins had direct effect on the major fatty acids found in sunflower and other oil seed crops. Sunflower SAD protein was distinctively predicted from X-ray crystallography of castorbean SAD protein since the SAD gene is highly conserved among different plants. Sunflower OLD protein was found to have 5 transmembrane-helix regions based on its biochemical properties.
