An analysis of the present state of table grape production in our country is made and the main problems standing to be solved with a view to its future development are mentioned in the paper. The analysis of the officially announced data by the Department of Agrostatistics at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on the state of production of table grapes in our country during the last five years (2001-2005) outlines a negative trend with regard to areas, production and average yields. The harvested areas of table vineyards have decreased almost by half as compared to the beginning of the period, the quantity of produced grapes amounts to 10 723 tons in 2005 and the average yields vary within the range of 390 to 264 kg/da. The drawn conclusions as to the state of table grape production put several main problems for solution: necessity for elaboration of a program for development of table grape production; updating of variety structure in con formity with consumerandrsquo;s demand and achievements of Bulgarian and world breeding; building of a reproduction base for production of grapevine planting material; purposeful state policy; information and assistance to agricultural producers in use of the resources from the European funds intended to support of agriculture and rural regions. The right approach to solving the main problems concerning the future of table grape production in our country is decisive in organizing efficient and competitive production satisfying the economic interests of owners and meeting the ecological and social criteria of sustainability of agriculture.
