Haematological variables and growth intensity of suckling piglets during the first week after birth raised with and without water
2007
Ivanova-Peneva, S.
A total of 99 newborn pigs from 10 litters have been studied for the change in hematological variables and live weight during the first week after birth. 5 of the litters were provided with water and 5 of them were raised without water. No statistically significant differences were established between the two groups of litters in hematological variables (excluding WBC). The higher number of WBC in pigs with water consumption is likely to indicate higher level of metabolism and higher vitality of pigs during the first week after birth. No signs of dehydration have been observed in pigs raised without water. Water has influenced positively intensity of growth (Р0.05).
