A bief history of columnar apple origin is presented. The results of the columnar apple research work carried out in the CIS countries, Canada and England have been summarized. Apparently from the description of biological features of varieties of an apple tree of columnar type, all the basic requirements to fruits and a tree at these varieties are available at a good level. Features of the columnars type compete to the best varieties of an apple-tree of world sortment not bad. Varieties Valyuta, Arbat, Tchervonets and others are steady to scab. The Columnar varieties are well stored in storehouses of usual type and it is even better in storehouses with the adjustable gas environment. Modern technologies of storage allow to store apples till new crops. Small size, early maturity, a high and annual crop from first-second year of landing of columnar orchard (more than 100 c/ha) are doubtless biological advantage of the columnar type of an apple-tree. On 3-4 year the orchard completely pays back expenses for planting and for caring and has good annual profit till 15 years of a life. In conditions of Belarus the columnar varieties and the technology of their cultivation demands are being studying
