The objective of the work was to assess the environmental impact of an «ecological farm» approach implemented by PDISAB, a development project integrating the provinces of Sanguie and Boulkiemde. An ecological farm is a family exploitation of about 1 ha enclosed by a hedge inside of which the farmer tries to intensify the agro-sylvo-pastoral production. The impact of the approach on the state of natural resources and their management was assessed by means of surveys conducted with key actors, the analysis of data from monitoring the farms and field observations. In its theoretical conception, the ecological farm approach aims to integrate agriculture, livestock and forestry. However, actual implementation in the field with the farmers did not yield the expected results. Most farms are destroyed or deserted a few years after their installation, and the old practices are resumed. Reasons for this are discussed and proposals are made to improve the approach.
