Experimental study on flexural toughness of fiber reinforced concrete beam under freezing and thawing action

This paper studied on flexural toughness of the fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) beam subjected to freeze thaw actions, by comparison with FRC without Freezing and thawing action (normal) and the plain concrete (PL) beam. With this experiment PVA -FRC beam which makes 2 types of the fiber volume fractions (Vsub(f)=0.5% and 1%) and 3 types of the air content (0%, 4.5%, 6.5%) mix and PL beam is produced each 4 specimen, which are acted repeatedly freezing and thawing 300 cycles alternately 2 hours making use of a conventional rapid freezing and thawing device which is installed in Hokkaido College, Senshu University. After that, it did the bending experiment of the FRC beam, by comparison with the PL beam in regard to the flexural toughness of the FRC beam which was subjected to freezing and thawing action while it examined experimentally. As a result, as for the flexural toughness of the FRC beam when fiber volume fraction to be high and it is air content 4.5%, when it is 6.5% compared to, it was found that it becomes large. In addition, it was found those of the FRC beam with fiber volume fraction and making the AE water reducing agent mix by comparison with the PL beam that it improves the flexural toughness of FRC beam. On the other hand, in case of the FRC beam due to freeze-thaw actions it was found that when air content is 4.5% and fiber volume fraction is 1%, it is superior in frost resistance.
