[Spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus L.) in forests of Latvia in summer 2007]

Monitoring of spruce stands to decrease of spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus L.) distribution has been carried out in Latvia in summer 2007. Pheromone traps were used in control of spruce bark beetle, which placed in clearings of coniferous trees in May, June and July 2007. Last year spruce bark beetles were damaged 6% of spruces older than 50 years. Besides, beetle infected wood with blue fungus. Insecticide Fastaks e.k. or Karate should be use for timber prevention. It spraying starts at the air temperature + 10 deg C, because first pests are appears at + 14 deg C.
