The effect of heterosis phenomenon was calculated in Salvia sclarea plants in the second year of vegetation for the following indices: plant height, inflorescence length, number of primary and secondary ramifications per inflorescence, inflorescence yield and volatile oil content. F1 three-way and double cross hybrids manifested heterosis in relation to the best parental form in: inflorescence length (up to +37%), volatile oil content (+17 - +40%), volatile oil production (to 93%)as compared to the check variety. According to heterosis appearance, F2-F5 hybrids can be divided in three groups: 1)Hybrids which maintain a high heterosis effect in F2-F5 in relation to the both parental forms, i. e. instable heterosis becomes transmissible, fixed, constant; 2) hybrids having the heterosis effect higher than in F1; 3) hybrids having the heterosis effect significantly lower than in F1 or it varies from negative values in F2-F3 to positive ones in F4-F5 in relation to a single parental form or both ones. Most of these hybrids show the rather high effect (+23.0-+98,6%) of competitive heterosis for essential oil content.
