Response of rice (Var. BPI Ri-10) to the different rates and time on N-Fertilizer application
1994
Villamor, C.C.
The study was conducted at the DMMMSU-Experimental Farm during the wet season of 1993 cropping year. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the best rate and time of nitrogen fertilizer application, and to determine the interaction of rate and time of fertilizer-N application. A split-plot technique with four replications was followed. The rate of nitrogen was assigned as the mainplot and time of fertilizer application, subplot. Results of the study revealed that the time of nitrogen fertilizer application did not significantly influence the growth and yield of rice. However, the rate of nitrogen application showed marked effects on the performance of rice. Higher rates of fertilizers consistently improved the height, number of productive tillers, panicle count, and consequently, the gain yield per hectare. An increase in yield of 10% was obtained when nitrogen fertilizer was increased from 60 to 120 kg B/ha. Based from the results of the study, and since the performance of rice plants was improved as the rate of nitrogen was increased to 120 kg/ha. a similar study to include higher rates of N as treatment must be conducted to obtain more conclusive results.
